What won the race: Hometown driver Tommy Kerr overtook race-long leader and polesitter Brandon Kinzer with 10 laps remaining to win the Schaeffer's Oil Fall Nationals opener at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Kerr, who started fourth, earned $4,000 for his 40-lap victory.
Quotable: “I kept trying to hit my marks, and man, when I got into a rhythm on my marks, my car took off, I took off,” Kerr said. “Man, it’s just fun to win a race (despite) not getting to race every weekend. I kind of take time off, and man, it means so much more when you don’t race every weekend."
Key notes: Kerr, who went from fourth to second near the race's midpoint, won by 1.4 seconds over Robby Moses, who was within a car length in turn two with two laps remaining. ... He made the winning pass entering turn three on the 31st lap. ... The feature was slowed by a single caution when third-running Donald McIntosh, the winner's Blount Motorsports teammate, spun exiting turn four on lap 23 ... Dakotah Knuckles ran second the first half of the race but slipped back to fifth.
On the move: Robby Moses of Maryville, Tenn., started seventh and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Kerr’s Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and is sponsored by Stowers CAT, Massey Electric, Blount Excavating, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Walker’s Truck Contractors, Food City and Wine & Spirits Cellar.
