Steve Casebolt takes the checkers at Moler Raceway Park.
What won the race: Emerging after an early battle with polesitter Freddie Carpenter, Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind., took over for good before halfway and held on late for a $5,000 victory in the 13th annual Victor "Ike" Moler Memorial at Moler Raceway Park.
Quotable: “It felt close. When you lead that long … you don’t know where to go,” Casebolt said. “I saw (Devin) Gilpin low, I heard R.J. (Conley) high; I was in the middle and my middle kind of crumbed up on me a little bit and wasn’t that good. So I didn’t know where to go. I just tucked back down there on that bottom and tried to make it work."
Key notes: Casebolt notched his fourth victory of the season, all in Ohio; he also earned $5,000 in a June 15 victory at Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park. ... Runner-up R.J. Conley slipped back to sixth but rallied late after starting outside the front row. ... Third-place finisher Devin Gilpin, who challenged Casebolt in running as high as second, piloted the No. 7B for on-again, off-again car owner Jim Beeman. ... Duane Chamberlain retired late while running fourth. ... Early leader Freddie Carpenter retired before Chamberlain. ... Colten Burdette had problems with his primary car and drove Randy Wise's car in the feature; he was the second retiree. ... The $5,000-to-win program marked the richest purse in event history.
On the move: Third-place finisher Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., started 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Casebolt’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Sudz Car Wash, JE Pistons, BruceBilt Performance, VP Racing Fuels and Gotta Race.
