Timothy Culp heads for victory at Jackson Motor Speedway.
What won the race: Timothy Culp of Prattsville, Ark., overtook fellow front-row starter Bub McCool on the 23rd lap Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway and completed a 35-lap Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory worth $3,000.
Quotable: “I haven’t been here in a Late Model in several years. I guess I kinda miss this place,” Culp said. “It kinda fits my driving style. You know, you kinda got to get up on the wheel and be a little aggressive and you can root around there pretty good. The car was good. We could move all over the racetrack. Me and Bub (McCool) had a pretty good run. I was watching him, seeing where he was struggling just a little bit there the longer the race got and we caught him … just tried to figure out a good time to pass him in lapped traffic and stuff and it all worked out.”
Key notes: Culp won by 1.467 seconds over McCool. ... His previous series victory came July 20 at Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La. ... Culp has seven career victories on the Arkansas-based tour. ... Ten drivers were on the lead lap at the finish. ... A portion of the track lighting fell dark at 10:10 p.m., causing a delay. ... Rick Rickman's car rolled after he got into the turn-three wall in the third heat; he wasn't injured but he scratched from the main event. ... Jackson Motor Speedway hosted the second night of a trio of $3,000-to-win Comp Cams events over Labor Day weekend.
On the move: Hunter Rasdon of Jonesboro, Ark., started ninth and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Culp’s Rocket Chassis is powered by Clements Racing Engines and carries sponsorship from Bennings Heat & Air, Carrier, Culp's Automotive, Loftis Farms and Henry’s Auto Salvage.
Points chase: Entering the event, Tony Jackson Jr. (2,551 points) of Lebanon, Mo., led Kyle Beard (2,395), Timothy Culp (2,394), Brian Rickman (2,216) and B.J. Robinson (2,200).
