Donald McIntosh visited victory lane at Thunderhill Raceway Park.
What won the race: A flawless Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., raced to his second straight Schaeffer's Fall Nationals victory Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway Park. The polesitting McIntosh led 50 laps to earn $5,000 in taking the checkers at the high-banked oval over Dane Dacus and Pierce McCarter.
Quotable: “This car was really awesome,” McIntosh said. “I feel like the racetrack was really good too because I could get under them on the bottom side or the top side so I really don't think it latched up. I could put it wherever I wanted it and when the car’s that good it makes my job easy. I’m not having to be over my head … just kinda watching everything around me rather than just fightin’ the car.”
Key notes: McIntosh won the previous series event Aug. 17 at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth. ... Runner-up Dane Dacus took the second spot from Pierce McCarter by the 10th lap. ... A single caution appeared on lap 35 when Josh Walker went over the turn-one embankment. ... The Schaeffer’s Fall Nationals, which morphed into being this season from a handful of events from series promoter Ray Cook’s Bonus Series along with other tour events, made its first trip to Thunderhill Raceway Park. … A $4,000 bonus was up for grabs to any driver who can sweep four events on Schaeffer’s-sponsored tours over Labor Day weekend, but it was eliminated when Friday's MARS winner at Thunder Valley Speedway in Salem, Ind., didn't enter at Thunderhill. MARS, the Fall Nationals, and Iron-Man Series joined forces to offer the bonus, as well as an additional $1,000 to the driver finishing highest in points for four events contested in Indiana, Tennessee and North Carolina (Josh Walker is in line for that bonus).
On the move: Runner-up Dane Dacus of Arlington, Tenn., started sixth.
Winner's sponsors: McIntosh's Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and is sponsored by Stowers CAT, Massey Electric, Blount Excavating, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Walker’s Truck Contractors, Food City and Wine & Spirits Cellar.
Points chase: After Thunderhill, Donald McIntosh (588 points) leads Pierce McCarter (554), David Payne (550), Brandon Kinzer (354) and Austin Smith (352).
Current weather: Clear, 70°F
