Chad Thrash heads to victory Sunday at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
What won the race: Polesitter Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., led all 40 laps Sunday at Magnolia Motor Speedway for his first victory on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series. Thrash, the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series points leader, earned $3,000.
Quotable: “Ever since the Lucas Oil Series race (on June 1), we found some stuff that week after, on the car that was messed up and we fixed it and we’ve been good ever since,” Thrash said.
Key notes: The most serious of four cautions came on the 37th lap when Dane Dacus triggered a wreck trying to regain the second spot from Timothy Culp. Tony Jackson Jr. got the worst of it, going off on the hook while Culp was knocked from contention, too. ... Jackson, the Comp Cams points leader, ran second most of the race and pressured Thrash from laps 27-29; his new Barry Wright Race Car required repairs that sent that team back to the chassis builders South Carolina shop. ... Among other yellows were for Scott Crigler's lap-11 spin and a slowing Jamey Boland on lap 34. ... Brian Rickman was the lone driver below 13 seconds in time trials, but he was disqualified for failing to make weight; he finished sixth in the main event. ... Magnolia wrapped up a three-race holiday weekend; Morgan Bagley won Friday at Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., and Culp won Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss. … Magnolia drew 138 race cars overall.
On the move: Runner-up B.J. Robinson of Bossier City, La., started 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Thrash's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by Miller Lite, Structural Steel Services, TomKat of Chunky, Integra Racing Shocks, Thrash Pest Control, Velocita Racewear, Hoosier Racing Tire, Hooker Harnesses, GW Performance, Fivestar Racing Bodies, X-treme Graphics by J-Rod and B-Line Fabrication.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Tony Jackson Jr. (2,551 points) of Lebanon, Mo., led Kyle Beard (2,395), Timothy Culp (2,394), Brian Rickman (2,216) and B.J. Robinson (2,200).
