Ricky Weiss earned $5,000 for his first career Baltes Memorial win.
What won the race: Ricky Weiss of Headlingley, Manitoba, led all the way from outside the front row Sunday at Eldora Speedway, capturing the 12th annual Baltes Classic for a $5,000 payday in the finale of the Sunoco American Late Model Series.
Quotable: "We unloaded with what we came here at the Dream, and all we did was free up all night — we were still a little tick tight in the feature there," Weiss said. "But hat's off to the (crew). They worked so hard."
Key notes: Weiss was scheduled to run with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, but that race rained out. ... Runner-up Freddie Carpenter finished 1.602 seconds behind. ... Michael Page lost a transfer spot in the second heat when he got out of shape late in the race, making contact with a couple of cars but hanging on. ... Afternoon rain briefly delayed the start of action. ... Eldora hosted its lone ALMS event of the season (two were rained out).
On the move: Scott James of Lawrenceburg, Ind., started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Weiss drives a Bloomquist Race Car powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Derrick's Sandblasting, AIE Communications, Hawkeye Construction, RDW Recycling, Keewatin Truck Service, Turk Enterprises, J&C Properties, Kakela Farms, Collins Brothers Trucking, Winkler Canvas, Mark Brandt Trucking, Allied Roofing, G-Style Transport, Straight Ahead Ventures and Penske Racing Shocks.
