What won the race: Defending his home turf in spectacular fashion, Joseph Joiner completed a sweep of Southern Raceway's Southern All Star Series doubleheader with a convincing $6,000 victory in Sunday night's 50-lap finale. He was never threatened as he led every circuit to polish off arguably the best weekend of his career.
Quotable: “I’ve raced in front of these people for a long time. I’m gonna cry again!” an emotional Joiner said in victory lane. “I thank each and every one of ‘ya all that’s ever supported me even doubted me — I don’t care, but I appreciate every fan in these stands for making it possible to come race.”
Key notes: Joiner grabbed the lead with a power move above Zach Leonhardi rounding turns three and four on the opening lap. “I pretty much held it wide open through there and it blasted on off, that’s for sure,” Joiner said. ... Joiner built an edge of nearly seven seconds on Billy Franklin before a lap-38 caution flag tightened the field and shrank is final margin over the Alabama driver to a more modest 1.945 seconds. ... Along with his career-first SAS triumph the previous night, Joiner pocketed $9,000 for his weekend of competition behind the wheel of his new Capital Race Car. ... Casey Roberts finished third after overtaking Austin Arnold on the race's final restart; Leonardi also passed Arnold on that restart to place fourth, leaving Arnold to settle for fifth. ... SAS points leader David Breazeale was the feature's first retiree, heading pitside after just one circuit. ... The event concluded the tour’s second trip to the Milton, Fla., oval this season and eighth race all time at Southern. …
Winner's sponsors: Joiner's Capital Race Car is sponsored by Cole Services, Three Trade Consultants and Hunt the Front.
