What won the race: Kicking off the Southwest Dirt Racing Association's Labor Day Extravaganza in flawless fashion, John Cornell of Phoenix, Ariz., raced to a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 25-lap weekend opener at Central Arizona Speedway. He wasn't seriously challenged en route to capturing the caution-free feature's $700 top prize over his fourth-starting teammate Craig Parker.
Key notes: Cornell, the two-time and defending SWDRA champion, scored his fourth win of 2019 and 20th of his career on the Arizona-based tour. He sits third on the circuit's all-time win list. ... Parker ran second behind Cornell from lap three to the finish. ... Brad Williams held off Bud Grossenbacher to finish third. ... The race was completed in less than eight minutes... SWDRA used a passing-points format for qualifying rather than its usual redraw. ... Mike Masters didn't start the feature. ... The two-day show concludes Sunday with another $700-to-win event.
On the move: Rallying after experiencing problems in his heat, Tucson, Ariz.'s Grossenbacher started 11th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Cornell's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by ATEC Engineering and JC Precision.
