Cade Dillard speeds down the Texas Motor Speedway backstretch.
What won the race: Fifth-starting Cade Dillard of Robeline, La., overtook front-row starter Payton Looney on a restart with six laps remaining Friday at Texas Motor Speedway’s dirt track for a $3,000 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory. Dillard edged Looney by eight-tenths of a second in the 30-lap opener of the Southern Dirt Track Championship.
Key notes: Dillard won his second career Comp Cams victory; his first came March 30, 2018, at Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas. ... Morgan Bagley led the first three laps before 16-year-old Colton Horner took command. ... Payton Looney took the lead from Horner on the 13th lap. ... Terry Phillips was running fourth when he spun on lap 26. ... The Comp Cams tour visited the dazzling 4/10-mile oval for the first time and caps the weekend with Saturday's $7,000-to-win event. … Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup from Friday’s action were Robbie Starnes, Skip O’Neal, Trey Beene III, Joseph Long, Allen Murray, Jason Papich, Austin Theiss, Joe Godsey, Jeff Roth and Steve Whiteaker Jr.
On the move: Timothy Culp of Prattsville, Ark., started 17th and finished fifth; John O. Whittington of Vidor, Texas, started 11th and finished fourth.
