Max Blair (111) goes around David Scott (4) to take command.
What won the race: Overtaking polesitter David Scott with an early pass on the high side, fellow front-row starter Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., cruised to the $5,000 victory in Saturday’s September Shootout at Raceway 7. Blair took the checkers ahead of Boom Briggs and Dave Hess Jr. for his 40th feature victory of the season.
Quotable: “I really screwed the start of the race up. Boy, did I miss (turns) one and two bad,” Blair said. “When that yellow came out, I was like, well, I can’t do that again. Then I got a pretty good rhythm rolling there on the top."
Key notes: Mike Pegher Jr. retired running fifth on the 11th lap. ... Bump Hedman spun early, collecting Brandon Groters and Rich Gardner. .... Hedman and Hackett spun together on lap 11. ... Chad Wright spun in turn two mid-race with Hedman sent to the tail for his part in the incident. ... Mike Maresca and Mike Knight tangled on lap 22 with Knight's car ending up against a turn-one lightpole in the infield. ... Chub Frank retired early. ... The unsanctioned Super Late Model event served as a tuneup for the Oct. 4 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series visit to the northeastern Ohio oval. ... The track runs Crate Late Models weekly with occasional Super Late Model specials. ... The night's sponsors: Rick Pratschler’s HBR Trucks, Angie Brown’s HBB Graphics, Marc Hoegerl Racing, Amsoil by Bonnie and Gary Neubauer and Memories Made by Lakewood.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and is sponsored by Specialty Products, Previty’s Auto Wrecking, Moody & Son Welding, Murphy’s Logging, C&J Dairy, Upstate Auto Group, Sons of the American Legion Post 1460, Niemeyer’s Garage, Plyler Entry Systems and MWB Graphics.
Points chase: Darrell Bossard of Centerville, Pa., is the track's Crate Late Model champion and a likely Super Late Model entrant.
