Adam Turner drove Kyle Sopaz's car to a $4,000 victory at Brighton.
What won the race: Piloting a Kyle Sopaz-owned car, Adam Turner drove to victory in Saturday’s Cool 100 Applefest Shootout finale at Brighton Speedway. Turner’s Vanderlaan Northeast Crate Late Model Alliance victory was worth $4,000.
Quotable: “I can’t thank Kyle (Sopaz) enough for even have any faith in me,” Turner said. “The car was awesome. Man this is so awesome. I can’t believe that. He called me Friday morning and said ‘If you want to race my car come pick it up.’ The guys did everything, I didn’t … I pulled the steering wheel toward me ‘cause Kyle’s got a bigger belly than I do. All their sponsors … Tony at Lots & Lines told me to just drive the wheels off of it and he’ll worry about what happens to it after that. Hopefully he covers the damage from (Friday) night when I drove the wheels off of it.”
Key notes: Brighton’s second Vanderlaan Northeast Crate Late Model Alliance race of the weekend and the tour’s fifth overall of 2019 was also the tour’s richest of the season. … New Yorker Chad Homan won Friday's feature. … There hasn’t been a repeat winner in five Northeast Alliance races this season. Turner and Homan join David Pangrazio, Kyle Sopaz and Steve Baldwin as 2019 winners. … Charlie Sandercock of Belleville, Ontario, who swept both Applefest Shootout races last season and is winless on the mini-tour this year, finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Turner’s winning Kyle Sopaz-backed No. 12 carries sponsorship from Limestone Limousine, Lots & Lines Traffic Line Markings, Montgomery Fleet Services, Bellevue Fabricating, Burnin Bates Guide Service and Goody’s Pizzeria.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Charlie Sanderock (240 points) of Belleville, Ontario, led Kyle Sopaz (228), Rob Peitz (223), Steve Baldwin (204) and Sam Pennachio (203).
