Austin Horton enjoys his Alabama State Championship victory at EAMS.
What won the race: Surviving multiple cautions and subsequent restarts in the waning laps, Austin Horton of Newman, Ga., won Sunday’s Alabama State Championship at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Horton needed clean restarts on laps 42 and 44 to turn back Dalton Cook in the 47-lap main event. He finished 0.699 of a second ahead of Cook in winning $5,000.
Key notes: Ten of the 20 starters completed all 47 laps. … The race took just more than 31 minutes to complete. … The caution on lap 42 erased Horton’s 0.496-second advantage. … Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., won both the Crate Late Model feature and the National Late Model Super Car Series feature for a $10,000 weekend. … Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn., won the 602 feature. EAMS hosts the National 100 Nov. 2-3.
