Kyle Hardy picked up his first career Carolina Clash victory.
What won the race: Shooting by a slowing Brett Hamm on the final lap, Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., captured Saturday's 50-lap Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series feature at Fayetteville Motor Speedway for a $5,000 top prize and his first-ever victory on the regional tour. Hardy crossed the finish line 0.460 of a second in front of Trent Ivey while Hamm limped to a fifth-place finish with a flat tire.
Key notes: Hardy slipped past the slowing Hamm rounding turn three on the last circuit to grab his first triumph since taking over the driving chores for Billy Hicks's Mount Airy, N.C.-based team. ... Hamm, who won a Clash event earlier in the season at Fayetteville, had led the entire distance until his final-lap misfortune. ... A dozen drivers completed 50 laps. ... The Carolina Clash made its third and final stop at Fayetteville during the 2019 season.
On the move: Michael Brown of Lancaster, S.C., started seventh and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Hardy’s Billy Hicks-owned Longhorn Race Car is powered by a Kenny Lamb/Vic Hill engine and sponsored by H&H Auto Sales and Penske Shocks.
Points chase: Entering the event, Hamm (967 points) led Dennis Franklin (907), Jeff Smith (894), David Yandle (824) and Anthony Sanders (761).
