What won the race: Inheriting the lead on lap 14 when Carson Ferguson retired, Henry Hornsby III of Beckley, W.Va., led the final 37 laps to pick up a huge hometown victory in the Jack-O-Lantern 50 at Beckley Motorsports Park on Saturday. Hornsby outran Zack Dohm for a $5,555 payday.
Quotable: “It feels great to finally get us a big here in the back door in front of all our hometown fans. That’s the people that’s stuck with us,” said Hornsby. “We’ve took off on the road here and there with our Super Late (Model) and we don’t run around the home quite as much as we used to but we still got a pretty strong fan base and I appreciate every one of them.”
Key notes: Carson Ferguson of Charlotte, N.C., led the first 13 circuits before his evening was cut short. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, with the final yellow coming on lap 44. ... Hornsby held off Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., during the final six laps, winning by 0.849 seconds over Dohm. ... Greg Martin of Oliver Springs, Tenn., claimed the third position, 2.221 seconds behind Hornsby. ... The Jack-O-Lantern 50 marked the first-ever trip to the Mountain State for the American Crate All-Star Series and their last event of the 2019 racing season.
