What won the race: Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., overtook race-long leader Jadon Frame with six laps remaining to capture Saturday’s Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series main event at Talladega Short Track on Saturday to sweep the track’s doubleheader weekend. Knowles earned $2,500 to go along with Friday’s $2,000 victory at TST.
Quotable: “Jadon (Frame) slowed down late in the race, so I figured he has used up his tires,” said Knowles. “I got under him coming off turn two, and had the inside line going to turn three. I was able to hit the rubber in the groove, and then drive off turn four to take the lead. I have a great crew that do all of the work on my car back at the shop because I’m always busy working on customers’ cars. I couldn’t do all of this without them.”
Key notes: Knowles won his eighth DLCS feature of the season, his fourth in the last five starts and his third at Talladega Short Track this season. … He finished 3.354 seconds ahead of Jadon Frame. … Knowles was scheduled to start fourth, but after a coupe of tries to get the feature started, the original outside front row starter was penalized for jumping the start and Knowles was moved to the front row. … The series heads to Milton, Fla., Southern Raceway for a doubleheader Nov. 8-9. … Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala., was Saturday’s Southern All Stars feature at TST.
On the move: Wil Herrington started 18th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Knowles drives a Longhorn Chassis sponsored by Knowles Race Parts & Bodies, Josh Roberts Trucking, Buster Goss Body Shop, Martins Wrecker Service, Curbow Logging, Coosa Heating & Cooling and JW Motorsports.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Jake Knowles (1,320 points) of Rome, Ga., led Cruz Skinner (1,236), Wil Herrrington (1,134), Oakley Johns (1,134) and Tyler Wood (1,134).
