Mike Spatola notched his first $5,000 victory since his rookie season.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when Dennis Erb Jr. retired during an early caution, pole-starting Mike Spatola of Manhattan, Ill., raced to a $5,000 Super Late Model victory Sunday at Quincy Raceway in the finale of the Kenny Pratt Memorial weekend.
Quotable: “This is awesome. It’s a great boost going into the offseason, definitely helping us get things rebuilt and get fresh,” said Spatola, whose team is outfitted with a new traveling rig. “We plan on starting in January in Arizona, so we don’t have much of an offseason. This is definitely going to help us get things rolling sooner."
Key notes: With his first career Quincy victory, Spatola notched his ninth (and richest) victory of the season. ... His $5,000 payday matched his career-high; Spatola had two $5,000 paydays in DIRTcar Summer Nationals during his rookie Late Model season in 2011. ... Fast qualifier Rich Bell pressured Spatola mid-race but he lost the position when he spun after tangling with McKay Wenger; Bell ended up sixth. ... Second-starting Jeremiah Hurst slowed on the first lap and was the first retiree. ... With rain and cool temperatures in the forecast for Saturday night, Quincy officials postponed the Kenny Pratt Memorial finale to Sunday. ... Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., scored a $2,000 victory in Friday's opener. ... The event marks Quincy's season finale. ... Denny Woodworth won the Crate Late Model feature.
On the move: Brent Larson of Lake Elmo, Minn., started eighth and finished third.
