Ross Robinson poses in victory lane after his Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend victory at his hometown Georgetown Speedway.
What won the race: After taking the lead from Donald Lingo Jr. with an aggressive slider on a lap-11 restart and surviving a retaliatory strike from Lingo eight circuits later, Ross Robinson went on to capture Saturday's 40-lap Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend Super Late Model feature at his hometown Georgetown Speedway for a career-high $7,000 payday. Robinson beat his fiancee, Amanda Whaley, by nearly a straightaway.
Quotable: “I can’t thank everybody enough that stands behind me and supports me,” Robinson said. “We have been so, so, so close to having a big payday. I hate that it had to come with dramatics, but this is for single person that’s ever stood by me, bought a T-shirt, just offered some good words, and every person that stayed to watch in this cold weather."
Key notes: Robinson’s surge to grab the lead from Lingo on the lap-11 restart saw him slide in front of the pacesetter in turn two; contact damaged the nosepiece of Lingo’s car and, on lap 12, caused Lingo to slow and bring out a caution flag because his hood flew up. … Continuing after a pit stop, Lingo ran slowly, waiting for Robinson, who was being challenged by Mark Pettyjohn; when Robinson attempted to lap him on the 19th circuit, Lingo slid up the track in turns one and two, pushing Robinson over the edge and sending himself spinning off the second corner. Robinson was allowed to restart in the lead because he never stopped moving while Lingo, who led from the start driving a Longhorn car he just bought from Herb Tunis, was done for the night. … Pettyjohn chased Robinson until a broken starter and driveshaft eliminated him on lap 31 and gave second to Whaley. … Trever Feathers finished third in his first-ever Super Late Model start at Georgetown…. Polesitter Rick Eckert, who was outgunned by Lingo at the initial green, ran second until power-steering trouble forced him out on lap 11. ... Two of Friday's 17 entries — Jamie Lathroum and Andy Anderson — scratched from Saturday's action due to mechanical trouble. ... Matt Hill earned $1,000 for winning Friday night's 20-lap RUSH Crate Late Model feature over Joey Warren and Ross Robinson.
On the move: Dale Hollidge of Mechanicsville, Md., started 10th and finished fifth.
