What won the race: Sliding ahead of polesitter Joseph Joiner on lap 35, Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., controlled the remaining 35 circuits of the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series sanctioned Southern 100 on Saturday night at Southern Raceway. He earned $7,000.
Quotable: “I really think Joseph had the fastest car in the race, but in lapped traffic, he got forced down into the dirty part of the track in turn four that made his car push up the track,” Bronson said. “That opened the door for me and it was time to go. The racing was really wild and we were bouncing off each other. It was some fun racing.”
Key notes: Kyle Bronson drove to his second career Southern 100 victory. He last won the event in 2017. … It the first victory for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regular on the Crate Late Model tour this season. … Friday’s portion of what was a planned doubleheader weekend at Southern Raceway was cancelled due to rain and a lightning strike which caused electrical problems at the track. … Series leader Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., who has seven wins on the year, finished fifth, his 14th top-five of the season. … Announced last week, Southern Raceway is now under new management, with Billy Hoover taking the reigns from Tom and Kim Lowery.
