BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Updates and results from Friday’s first round of the RhinoAg Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway, a $12,000-to-win event on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (results unofficial):
Rained out
Persistent rain at Golden Isles Speedway forced the cancellation of the first round of the RhinoAg Super Bowl of Racing. The event, halted amid evening hot laps, won't be made up. Saturday's action will go on as scheduled for hot laps 5 p.m. for the $12,000-to-win program that becomes the Lucas Oil Series opener.
Prerace notes
It’s a gloomy, wet day in south Georgia but officials are forging ahead with Friday’s program despite a drizzle for the last few hours. … Keeping moisture in the track won’t be a problem. … The 44 entries are two more than last season at Golden Isles and the most since the track drew 52 cars in 2017. … Don’t miss DirtonDirt.com’s RaceDay and Speedweeks Minute entries in the video section. … Most of the cars in the pits have been covered by tarps until the moments before tracks were sent to the track for hot laps about 5:20 p.m., about 20 minutes later than scheduled. ... The track's local Limited Late Model division is the only other division in action with 27 cars entered.
Friday’s prerace setup
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is set to get underway Friday at Golden Isles Speedway with the first round of the RhinoAg Super Bowl of Racing. Two-time and reigning series champion Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., will be among drivers chasing the $12,000 winner’s purse at the 4/10-mile oval.
The first of two weekend races is expected to draw near 50 racers with plans for time trials, heat races, consolation races and 50-lap main event. Four drivers transfer from each of four heats and three drivers transfer from each of two consolation races with two provisional starters filling the 24-car field.
Golden Isles hosts the first two races among nine Lucas Oil Speedweeks events continuing at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla. (Feb. 3-8) and All-Tech Raceway in Ellisville, Fla. (Feb. 9). A drivers’ five best finishes will be counted toward points standings provided they maintain perfect attendance through Speedweeks; all other drivers will be awarded 50 points per night.
