What won the race: Surviving a rash of late cautions, John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., held on to win Sunday’s Cabin Fever Shakedown at Boyd’s Speedway. Ownbey, who started from the outside front row and led all 40 laps, finished a car length in front of Jordan Rodabaugh after a caution on lap 37 set up a three-lap dash to the finish. Ownbey earned $5,000 for his second career Cabin Fever triumph.
Quotable: “(Saturday) night in hot laps (the car) was really bad. It just didn’t feel any good and in qualifying we didn’t. But we just kinda worked on it all weekend and finally got it where … in the feature it felt better. But the track was a little rough (Saturday) night. They did all they could with it, you know, it’s just the weather and stuff. But today, for some reason what they done to it, it was a lot better.”
Key notes: John Ownbey’s previous Cabin Fever victory came in 2018. … Ownbey joins Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., as the event’s only two-time winners. … The race was slowed by six cautions, including three in the final 11 circuits. … Cautions waved on lap three for Robby Mason; lap 11 for Justin Shipley; lap 22 for third-running Riley Hickman’s broken driveshaft; lap 29 for Lawson Hill; lap 35 for Will Roland; and lap 37 for David Brannon. … After engine trouble on Saturday prevented him from running his heat, Jadon Frame of Winchester, Tenn., who qualified third overall, went home and returned Sunday with his backup car. … Cody King did not start the feature. ... Jesse Lowe of Crossville, Tenn., won Saturday's Crate Late Models feature.
On the move: Jadon Frame of Winchester, Tenn., started 13th and finished third.
