What won the race: Three-time and reigning series champion John Cornell of Phoenix, Ariz., captured Friday’s Southwest Dirt Racing Association season opener at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway. Cornell finished ahead of eighth-row starter Don Shaw for a $1,000 victory in the first race of a weekend doubleheader.
Key notes: The pole-starting Cornell earned his 21st career series victory, tying him for second on the all-time list with Adam Crippen (Lonnie Parker Jr. has 67 career series victories). ...
