Wil Herrington collected the $5,000 Newsome Crate Racin' USA Winter Series finale.
What won the race: Leading every lap, polesitter Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., won Sunday's Newsome Crate Racin’ USA Winter Series finale at Cochran Motor Speedway, earning $5,000 after finishing 1.707 seconds ahead of Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla.
Quotable: “I knew we had a good shot to win and we’ve had a tremendous amount of good luck with this car,” said Herrington. “We showed speed right off the bat. Right before the race, I started looking around and there was (Kyle) Bronson and (Mark) Whitener starting right behind me and they’re good everywhere they go. I wanted to get out front and see what we had. I was really concerned on restarts because I know Bronson and Whitener are really good at throwing sliders, but it all worked out in our favor.”
Key notes: Herrington earned his second $5,000 payday in as as many days as he also won Cochran’s fourth annual Newsome Raceway Parts Crate Racin’ USA Street Stock World Championship on Saturday, giving him a $10,000 weekend. … Fifteen cars completed all 50 laps. … Pierce McCarter of Gatlinburg, Tenn., finished 14th and claimed the Winter Series championship by four points over Oxford, Ala.’s Cruz Skinner, who finished 15th. … Runner-up Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., won three of the seven miniseries events. … Bronson also won $10,000 in Saturday’s World Championships at Cochran, a Crate Late Model race continued from a December rainout. … Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., won the 602 Late Model Sportsman feature.
On the move: Jordy Nipper of Gray, Ga., started 24th and finished 12th.
