What won the race: Back in his own car after engine problems the previous night, Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, Ga., led 50 laps Sunday at Cochran Motor Speedway for a $2,500 Crate Racin’ USA Series victory. He took the checkers 1.281 seconds ahead of seventh-starting Pennsylvania invader Max Blair.
Quotable: “I have an awesome crew, and this win wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work and dedication,” Herrington said. “They tried to get a new engine in this car last night, but he ran out of time, so my car owner David Poole let me drive his sportsman car with the 602 engine in it. I just tried to hang on and get what I could get. Tonight was a whole different story. The crew finished up putting the new engine in, and it was an awesome race car tonight.”
Key notes: Herrington notched his third career series victory. ... Six cautions slowed the action and nine driver finished on the lead lap. ... Rain delayed the program and pushed the event well past midnight. ... Saturday winner Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., finished fourth. … Ty Ellis of Covington, Ga., won the Knowles Race Part Hard Charger award by starting 21st and finishing 11th.
On the move: Blake Smith of Dublin, Ga., started 12th and finished fifth.
Points chase: After the season-opening Cochran doubleheader, Cody Overton has 192 points to lead Max Blair (190) and Cruz Skinner (178).
