David Breazeale won his first series race since 2017.
What won the race: Polesitter David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., led all 30 laps in Friday's Southern All Star Duals in Dixie opener at Deep South Speedway to capture $3,000. Recording his third career series victory, Breazeale finished 0.449 seconds ahead of Josh Putnam.
Quotable: “I still had a little left in the tank,” Breazeale said. “I kept looking at the scoreboard and counting the laps down. I looked up and saw it was three (laps) to go and I had three lapped cars in front of me. And I was listening to Josh back behind me, and I knew I had a little bit of room. I could tell he was gaining on me, but like I said, I was backing off just trying not to catch them lapped cars. I didn’t want to mess up coming to the checkers."
Key notes: Breazeale, last year's series champion, captured his first series victory since Sept. 2, 2017, at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tenn. ... The feature winner broke a driveshaft in time trials that required repairs before he hit the track again. ... Breazeale has three career series victories. … Larry Harrod lowered the track record in time trials with his 15.748-second lap on the reconfigured oval.
On the move: Runner-up Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., started seventh in his Jeff Greer-owned car.
Winner's sponsors: David Breazeale’s Henderson Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engines and sponsored by L&D Trucking, X-Treme Graphics by J-Rod and Smith Auto Parts.
