Doug Drown of Wooster, Ohio, won his second career ULMS event.
What won the race: Tallying his second career Zimmer’s United Late Model Series win, polesitter Doug Drown of Wooster, Ohio, led flag-to-flag in the series opener at Thunder Mountain Speedway on Friday night. Taking the checkers ahead of Mike Pegher Jr. and Max Blair, Drown bagged $3,000.
Quotable: “You can stick getting (into the corner) but then you’re going to give up coming off,” Drown said. “So I gave up the setup getting in the corner just to know we’d have that drive off and be able to pedal the car. The thing is this (car) is responding to those changes, and that’s what’s awesome to have when you have a car like that."
Key notes: Drown's first career racing appearance came 21 years earlier to the day. ... Outside front-row starter Chub Frank slipped back to finish fourth. ... The first start was scrapped when Jared Miley triggered a scramble when he spun on the backstretch. ... The series returns to Thunder Mountain on Aug. 14. … Doug Surra won Friday’s Limited Late Model feature.
On the move: Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., advanced from his 11th-starting position to finish third.
Winner's sponsors: Drown’s Black Diamond Chassis is powered by a Malcuit Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Ely Road Reel Co., ABR Farms, 89 Homes and Building Improvements, Accu-Force Shock Service, Wooster Glass Co., and DG Racewear.
