What won the race: Overtaking Thursday's winner Jimmy Mars, fifth-starting Jesse Glenz took command on the 11th lap Friday at Cedar Lake Speedway to capture the victory in the second round of the Masters. Winning by a 0.773 second margin over Jimmy Mars, Glenz earned $5,000.
Quotable: “It was a little cat-and-mouse for a while with me and James (Giossi) and me and Jimmy (Mars), too. I’m sure it was great for the fans,” Glenz said. “The last 20 laps once it felt like it there was a little rubber down there, I was watching it, and he must’ve been right there the whole time … that was a true zero to hero overnight for me."
Key notes: Glenz, the reigning track champion, had a late-season hot streak in 2019 with three consecutive special-event victories, including a $3,000 payday at Cedar Lake. ... He has two victories in his first five races of 2020. ... He matched his richest career payday of $5,000 from ABC Raceway's Red Clay Classic last September. ... Cedar Lake polesitter Cole Schill settled for third. ... James Giossi led the first three laps before slipping back and retiring after 29 laps. … Chad Mahder ran among the top five in the first half of the race before slipping back; he was scored 17th but listed as disqualified in the finish for unsportsmanlike conduct after he retaliated against Dave Mass during a caution period.
On the move: Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., started 19th and finished eighth.
