Chad Simpson steers toward his $6,000 victory at Oshkosh.
What won the race: Dominating all night long, four-time Corn Belt Clash champion Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, led all the way in Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway's fifth annual George Scheffler Memorial for a $6,000 payday. Simpson, who rallied from ninth to win his heat and captured the pole dash, notched his second straight series victory and series-leading 27th of his career. Last year's winner A.J. Diemel was second.
Key notes: The Iowa-based series made its first visit to Oshkosh for the middle leg of a scheduled weekend tripleheader; Thursday's race at Luxemburg (Wis.) Speedway was rained out. ... The event honored late Wisconsin driver George Scheffler whose sons Russ and Rick are also accomplished racers. ... Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., piloted Bob Cullen's No. 8 and was on the move in the feature, but his car threw the power steering belt, forcing him out. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: T.J. Dolhun, Tim Buhler, Billy Rezutek, Mark Rose, Lyle Zanker, Ron Berna, Justin Hirt and Joe Reuter.
On the move: Jason Rauen of Farley, Iowa, started 20th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: The winner's Treat Engine-powered Victory Circle Chassis by Diercks entry is sponsored by Allstar Performance, Diercks Ltd, Farm Bureau Financial Services, GATR Truck Center, Graves Oil, Liebe Trucking, Master Built Concrete, Simpson Farms and Wehrs Machine & Racing Prodcuts.
Points chase: Entering the series weekend, Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, has 359 points to lead Dave Eckrich (281) and Jason Utter (276).
