Jason Utter heads for a victory at Plymouth Dirt Track.
What won the race: Denying series points leader Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, a sweep of the Corn Belt Clash weekend, Jason Utter of Columbus Junction, Iowa, turned back Simpson's pressure and inched away late for his second series victory of the season and a $3,000 payoff.
Key notes: Spencer Diercks jumped out to the early lead with Utter in pursuit. ... Brothers Chad and Chris Simpson battled for third early through a parade of cautions. ... Utter took the lead from Diercks a bit before halfway and the Simpsons slipped past Diercks when he jumped the cushion not long after. ... Chris Simpson brought out the final yellow and retired shortly after, forfeiting the second spot. ... Chad Simpson turned up the heat on Utter following the restart, pulling alongside at times down the stretch but never clearing Utter. ... Utter edged away slightly at the end with Simpson settling for second ahead of Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., who took third from Diercks in the race's middle stages. ... Plymouth welcomed the tour for the third race of a Wisconsin tripleheader on the Iowa-based tour. ... Thursday's race in Luxemburg rained out, but Chad Simpson earned $6,000 in Friday's George Scheffler Memorial at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. ... The tour wraps up its season with a Labor Day tripleheader in Illinois.
On the move: Dave Eckrich of Cosgrove, Iowa, rallied from the 17th to finish eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Utter made only his second start in a new Black Diamond/Club 29 Chassis, which has a Pro Power Racing Engine and is sponsored by Cox Design, Metal Fabrication, Laser Processing Inc., Louisa Gold Farms, P&L Transportation, BLT Farms, Brown Bros. Enterprises, Wehr's Machine, Cen-Pe-Co, Mendenhall Inc., Skubal Electric, Wrap'd Dynamic Decals, Fast Track Photos and Walters Web Design.
