What won the race: Starting outside the front row and leading all the way, Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis., earned his third victory in the Black Bear Casino Silver 1000 in four years, earning $2,500 in purse money and another $800 in lap money. Two-time winner John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., was second followed by Brent Larson, Kevin Carlson and Zach Wohlers.
Key notes: Last year's winner Darrell Nelson was running second midway through the race when a flat tire sent him to the infield. ... Jake Redetzke inherited the second spot, but he retired during the first caution lap 29 for Aaron Lillo's stalled car. ... The 42nd annual race is among the longest running Late Model specials in WISSOTA territory. ... The event's name came from the original payout: $1,000 in silver dollars. ... Other drivers with at least three Silver 1000 victories: Jeff Provinzino (2005, '09, '10), Rick Egersdorf (1986, '91, '99), Leon Plank (1975, '80, '85) and Rick Aukland (1988, '89, '96). ... Kevin Adams of Cameron, Wis., won the modified feature, a tribute to the late Don Roseen.
On the move: Brent Larson of Lake Elmo, Minn., came from 10th to finish third.
Winner's sponsors: Smith drives a Rocket Chassis sponsored by Amsoil, Badger Storage & Excavating, Big Red Motorsports, Como Oil & Propane, GottaRace, Keyser Manufacturing, McFarland PC, Michaeletz Trucking, Permco, and Willow River Saloon.
