Mike Mullen won his first DiscountShopTowels.com Dirt Kings Tour event.
What won the race: Racing at his hometown track, Mike Mullen of Seymour, Wis., rolled off the outside pole to score a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday night’s DiscountShopTowels.com Dirt Kings Late Model Tour-sanctioned Gehm’s Club 117 Fall Brawl 30 at Outagamie Speedway. He turned back several restart challenges from Nick Anvelink to beat his fellow Badger State driver by a comfortable margin for a $1,500 winner’s check.
Key notes: Mullen recorded his first-ever triumph on the Dirt Kings Tour, which debuted in 2017. … It was a perfect night on home turf for Mullen, who doubled his pleasure by winning his heat race and feature in both the Late Model and open-wheel modified divisions. … Fourth-starter Anvelink and polesitter Kyle Raddant finished second and third, respectively, running in that order for most of the distance. … Four caution flags slowed the race, the final one coming on lap 25 when Justin Schmidt spun. … Justin Reed was battling for fourth early in the feature when he spun in turn two. … Outgamie’s event was originally scheduled as an unsanctioned race until Sept. 24’s Dirt Kings event at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wis., was canceled; track and series officials then agreed to add Dirt Kings sanctioning to Outagamie’s action. … The 2020 Dirt Kings season will close with Oct. 3’s Jimmy “Wildman” Watson Classic at Wilmot (Wis.) Raceway.
On the move: Troy Springborn of Shawano, Wis., started 14th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Mullen’s MB Customs Race Car is powered by a Tim’s Automotive engine and carries sponsorship from Ricky Lemmen Motorsports, Swinkle’s Trucking, Wehrs Machine, FastShafts, Lemmen Thario Building Services and Performance Bodies.
Points chase: After Outagamie, Justin Ritchie (300) leads Ron Berna (286), Troy Springborn (272), Brett Swedberg (266) and Justin Reed (250).
