Mike Marlar gets rolling in his first visit to Tri-County Racetrack.
What won the race: Polesitter Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., outdueled fellow Tennesseean and front-row starter Billy Ogle Jr. early and went on to become the 13th winner in 13 series races over two seasons. The second-running Ogle, who led the first four laps, fell from contention when he hit the wall trying to avoid a spinning lapped car and had to restart on the tail. Marlar kept runner-up Shane Clanton in check the rest of the 40-lapper.
Key notes: Marlar won in his first visit to Tri-County. ... Five cautions slowed the action, including on lap five when Victor Lee and Donald McIntosh tangled in turn four. ... The next yellow came on lap 16 when Ray McElhiney spun after contact with Austin Smith and the second-running Billy Ogle Jr. hit the wall trying to avoid him. ... Contender David Payne slammed the turn-two wall with four laps remaining. ... The Ray Cook-promoted oval hosted his Spring Nationals miniseries for the fourth of its 11 events in 2014. ... The third time was a charm; the race rained out each of the past two Friday evenings. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature event: Shawn Chastain, Gabe Wilson, Eddie Blackmon, Kayne Hickman and Jamie Oliver. ... Jimmy Elliott won Tri-County's Crate Late Model feature over Ryan Gifford. ... Kentucky hosts the Spring Nationals April 17-19 at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City and Florence Speedway in Union.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Delk Equipment Sales, RS Trading and GW Performance.
