Billy Moyer reached victory lane in his native state at Davenport.
What won the race: Winning his 45th career series event, Hall of Famer Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., captured Thursday's Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association event on the quarter-mile Davenport (Iowa) Speedway. Moyer earned $5,000 in taking the checkers ahead of fellow front-row starter Jason Papich, who led the first four laps before Moyer took charge.
Quotable: “I think the bottom was going away a little bit more after that last restart and it slowed (Papich) down a little bit and the top basically stayed the same," Moyer said. "It was fun, but you had to just watch what you were doing in turn one and at both ends because you were just right on the edge of going off the end.”
Key notes: Moyer's victory was his second in his last four MLRA starts; he captured 2020's season finale at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. ... Third-running Bobby Pierce slowed with a lap-17 flat tire. ... Jordan Yaggy's mid-race spin drew the only other caution. ... Davenport's event was the third of five straight nights of MLRA racing. ... Tuesday's winner at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., Tony Jackson Jr., was eighth at Davenport. ... Wednesday's Stuart (Iowa) Speedway winner Jesse Stovall was 17th at Davenport. ... The busy MLRA stretch culminates with two events at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, where every lap of Saturday's $10,555-to-win Slocum 50 will stream live on FloRacing (DirtonDirt.com subcribers have access).
On the move: Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., started 10th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Moyer’s Capital Race Car is sponsored by Mesilla Valley Transportion, Karl Chevrolet, M&S Concrete, Henderson Motorsports and Jack’s CarQuest.
Points chase: After three events, Ashton Winger has 550 points to lead Jason Papich (545) and Tony Jackson Jr. (540).
