Kyle Hardy completed his sweep of the Battle by the Bay features.
What won the race: Winning his third straight Pace Performance RUSH Battle of the Bay feature, second-starting Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, W.Va., outdueled polesitter Max Blair at Winchester Speedway on Saturday night to pocket $3,000. Hardy claimed an additional $1,000 for winning the Battle of the Bay points fund after sweeping all three events while also remaining unbeaten in four Crate Late Model starts at Winchester in 2021.
Quotable: “We were looking forward to these races coming up in our backyard, but to be honest I didn’t think we could win all three," Hardy said. "I just wanted to get through the last two nights because I was looking forward to coming here. This is so great. We couldn’t be happier and it just shows you what a great car can do. I thought I was about done when I made that mistake in lapped traffic, but it doesn’t matter now. There are so many people that help out with this deal and of course I wouldn’t be racing if it weren’t for my parents. I can’t say enough about everyone — it’s a great feeling to be here.”
Key notes: Hardy, who lowered the track record with his 15.119-second qualifying lap, earned $10,175 plus contingencies for his Battle of the Bay sweep. ... Ben Scott won the non-qualifiers' race. ... Wes Bonebrake won the night's Limited Late Model feature. ... Hardy's triumph on Saturday was his third straight Battle of the Bay victory, after Thursday's opener at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway and Friday night's visit to Potomac (Md.) Speedway. ... The tour was scheduled to open on Wednesday at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar but fell to Mother Nature. Winchester hosted the third round of the Battle by the Bay events on the RUSH tour.
On the move: Sparky White of Delmar, Del., started 21st and finished 11th.
