What won the race: Russ King of Bristolville, Ohio, held off challenges from Alan Dellinger of Niles, Ohio, and Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., to collect a $1,500 RUSH Dirt Late Model Series triumph at Sharon Speedway, his first tour victory of the season.
Quotable: "Anytime you can beat that guy (Dellinger), no matter what you're racing it's a pretty big accomplishment," King said. "I didn't get a chance to know Gary (Knollinger) very well, but from everything I've heard from the Blairs, Montgomery, and the people involved, he sounded like a really down to earth guy and I'm glad to win this race in his memory."
Key notes: The fourth annual Gary Knollinger Memorial opened a weekend double header for the RUSH series. ... King makes the series sixth winner in six races. ... A yellow flew after a five-car pileup on the race's initial start. ... John Waters drew a lap-six caution when he tangled with Russ Byler, spinning in turn two; Byler retired. ... Chad McClellan, Jeremy Adamik, W.L. Stile and Eric Andrus collided on the ensuing restart. Stile and Andrus retired. ... The final 19 laps ran caution-free. ... Will Thomas currently leads Sharon's weekly points standings; he finished eighth. ... The series will travel to Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Sept. 13 as part of the 26th annual Pittsburgher.
