What won the race: Jimmy Mars overtook race leader Rick Hanstead of Boyceville, Wis., just past the halfway mark to win his hometown track's biggest race for the sixth time. He raced to a $5,000 in the Punky Manor Challenge of Champions. He previously won the event in 1996, 1997, 2004, 2007 and 2011.
Key notes: Saturday night's program went under a rain delay after showers hit the track during the second of five scheduled features, but the precipitation had halted and surface prep was underway by 8 p.m. CT. ... The race was brought under an early red flag after several drivers tangled for a pileup in turn four. Pat Doar and Duane Madher were among drivers failing to restart. ... Only 13 of the race's 27-car field completed the event. ... The 35th annual event honored the memory of former Late Model champion Punky Manor. ... Heat races for five WISSOTA-sanctioned divisions, including the Late Models, were completed Friday. ... All three heat race winners started on the front row and all 27 Late Models entrants transferred to the feature. ... The weekend's race concluded Red Cedar's the 2014 season.
