Gregg Satterlee holds the checkered flag after winning at Williams Grove.
What won the race: Winning the rain-shortened Zimmer’s United Late Model Series season opener, Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., claimed the $3,500 victory on Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway over Rick Eckert and Jason Covert. The scheduled 30-lap feature was reduced by 10 circuits after a late-night shower delayed the race on the sixth lap.
Quotable: “That was kind of a crazy race,” Satterlee said. “I got a really bad start and was just trying to be patient and not get too excited in the holes down here. I was able to get up to second and was feeling really good, then the rain came and we come back out and I felt really good right off the bat. (When) Kyle (Hardy) broke, I was just fortunate for both of us I didn’t hit him when his driveshaft broke.”
Key notes: Sixth-starting Satterlee, making his first start of 2022, recorded his 12th career ULMS victory and fourth career win at Williams Grove. … Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., who earned the pole via the redraw, paced the field early but dropped from contention — and handed the lead to Satterlee — on the ninth circuit after losing a driveshaft. … Fourth-starting Matt Sponaugle of Wiley Ford, W.Va., retired on lap 13 after losing brakes. … The Zimmer's United Late Model Series heads to Port Royal Speedway for a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. … Justin Peck pocketed $5,500 for winning the sprint car feature.
On the move: After a mechanical issue sidelined him on the second lap of his heat race, Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., started 18th in the feature and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Satterlee’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Satterlee Petroleum Distributors, Keyser Manufacturing, Classic Ink and Valvoline.
Points chase: It was ULMS season opener.
