Shane Clanton emerges from his car after his victory at EAMS.
What won the race: Third-starting Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., topped fifth-starting Mack McCarter of Seymour, Tenn., for a $4,000 Southern All Stars victory, his first series triumph of the 2014 season.
Quotable: "What an awesome race car," Clanton said." We were just biding our time there and Ray got a little loose there trying to pass (a lapped car) on the outside, and I was just there to take advantage. I hate it for Ray there, he got against the lapped car there I guess and that killed a 1-2 finish for Capital Race Cars. We're all pretty good right now."
Key notes: Clanton has 12 career Southern All Stars victories. ... He picked up a victory in Little Valley Speedway's $3,000-to-win special last month. ... Front-row starters Ray Cook and Chris Madden retired early. ... Randy Weaver won the last SAS event at Smoky Mountain on Sept. 20. ... The Southern All Stars are part of the three-day weekend of the 36th annual Alabama State Championships. ... The track has hosted five previous series events, including three last season. ... Saturday and Sunday's SAS programs each pay $4,000-to-win.
On the move: Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., charged from the ninth starting spot to finish third. Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., advanced from the eighth starting position to finish fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Clanton's Capital Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from Hornburg Oil, Keyser Manufacturing, Penn Gold Well Services and Weldbank Energy.
Points chase: Entering the event, Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, Tenn., had 890 points to lead Todd Morrow (794).
