Jimmy Owens rolled to another 411 victory Monday.
What won the race: Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., turned in another sterling performance Monday at 411 Motor Speedway in his home state, topping polesitter Dale McDowell for the $10,052 Scott Sexton Memorial victory with the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series. Owens crossed the finish line 1.315 seconds ahead of McDowell for his fourth series win at the track. Owens notched his third overall victory of 2022 and first in 23 races.
Quotable: “I got the hang of it up yonder. It was real treacherous up there, but I could run it and I could catch moisture and stuff coming off,” Owens said of his high-side charge. “But Dale (McDowell) had a really good hot rod and the guys in front of me did. I was just able to find that top and beat those guys. Out there battling Dale for the lead and stuff, coming up on those lapped cars it felt like I’d never won a race before. To bring it home here in front of this crowd is pretty awesome.”
Key notes: Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., led the first 39 of 52 laps before Owens snatched the lead on lap 40. McDowell also set quick time with a lap of 13.987 seconds. ...
