Dustin Linville pulled off his first SAS win Friday at Richmond.
What won the race: Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, Ky., fended off Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., to capture the $7,500 Finn Watson Memorial at Richmond (Ky.) Raceway on Saturday. Linville led all 50 laps en route to winning his first career XR Southern All Star Dirt Series feature.
Quotable: "It's the biggest race I've ever won," Linville said. "I mean, this track's been good to me since what's happened, happened. This is about the only place I can race here. ... Ponderosa, Lake Cumberland, they made their choices. I know it wasn't the best race for you guys, but I'm glad you were here to see it. We've had a heck of a week. We were banking on this right there, whether we'd go to Eldora or not, whether we'd make it to the next race. We race off what we win. That's one car and one motor, and that's all we got."
Key notes: Moving into second place on a lap-five restart, Carpenter remained within striking distance of Linville throughout the race. The two made contact entering turn one on the final lap before Carpenter settled for the runner-up position. ... Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., ran in the top-three for all 50 laps and completed the podium finishers. ... After winning Friday's $4,000 series stop at Mountain Motorsports Park, Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., pulled into the infield on lap 46 and was credited with 10th. ... Running in fourth at the time, Devin Gilpin pulled into the infield when approaching a restart attempt on lap 11. ... Following his $7,500 victory with the Iron-Man Series at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday, Eli Beets suffered mechanical problems on lap seven. ... Saturday's feature, the tour's first weekend trip to the Bluegrass State this year, was slowed by seven cautions with only nine cars running at the finish. … William Byrd scratched from the feature.
On the move: Shay Miller of Cullman, Ala., started 16th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Linville’s Team Zero Race Car is sponsored by Tim Short Chevrolet, Hatcher’s Auto Sales, TYRA Land Company, Keltner Contracting, J&K Automotive, Renegade Fuel, Fox Shocks and Mountain Dew.
