Pat Doar heads to a $4,000 victory in the Viking Fall Classic.
What won the race: On a frigid night, polesitter Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., led 29 of 40 laps of Viking's 11th annual Fall Classic for a $4,000 payday over hard-charging Marshall Fegers and track champion Eric Breeschoten. Doar notched his 250th career feature victory.
Key notes: Second-starting Mike Balcaen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, led the first 11 laps before Doar took command exiting turn four; Balcaen gave up the second spot on the 32nd lap when his car slowed with mechanical problems. ... All 26 entrants started the feature. ... With cold and wet weather cancelling Friday's racing, the full program of heats, consies and main events was pushed to Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. ... Saturday night temperatures dipped into the low 30s. ... Viking drew 185 race cars from five states with 363 racing laps over eight hours. ... Shaw Trucking was the race's presenting sponsor.
On the move: Eighth-starting Marshall Fegers of Mound, Minn., steadily climbed through the field to claim runner-up honors.
Winner's sponsors: Pat Doar's No. 11 Capital Race Car has a Pro Power Racing Engine and is sponsored by Speedwerx and S&S Transport.
Points chase: Eric Breeschoten of Buffalo, Minn., won the track championship over Jeff Wildung by 21 points.
