What won the race: Strengthening his lead atop the American All-Star Series point standings, Hayden Cardwell of Knoxville, Tenn., earned $2,500 in Friday’s All-American Bash opener at Beckley Motor Speedway. Cardwell overtook polesitter Michael Bland with a backstretch pass mid-race at the 3/8-mile oval.
Key notes: Cardwell finished 3.926 seconds ahead of third-starting Henry Hornsby III. ... Michael Bland led most of the way but faded to sixth in the closing laps. ... Seventh-starting T.J. Salango of Beckley, W. Va., retired with five laps remaining. ... The American All-Star Series presented by PPM completes the weekend at Kentucky tracks with Saturday's $2,500-to-win event at Mountain Motorsports Park in Isom and Sunday's $3,000-to-win event at Willard Speedway (a July 2 event at West Virginia Motor Speedway was removed from the schedule recently).
On the move: Ricky Greene of Newton, N.C., started 13th and finished fifth.
