What won the race: Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, raced to his first career victory on the Nebraska-based Super Late Model Racing Series, earning a $2,000 payday over Corey Zeitner of Omaha, Neb., and Randy Foote of Stanton, Iowa.
Key notes: Gustin nabbed his eighth victory of the season. ... The feature was halted by a pair of red flags for rollover incidents when Dan Shepherd of Greeley, Colo., and Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., got upside down. Pospisil was reported OK at the scene, while Shepherd was transported to the hospital for further observation. ... Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., had a rare off night in an otherwise dominant season, starting 22nd and finishing 12th. ... Polesitter Mike Collins of McClelland, Iowa, called it a night early. ... The weekend marked the Nebraska-based Super Late Model Racing tour's first trip to Lakeside. ... Friday and Saturday SLMRS features paid $2,000-to-win and $250-to-start, a boost over typical series purses. ... Malvern Saving & Trust and Neff Towing added sponsorship to boost the weekend's purse. ... Lakeside's action coincided with NASCAR racing at nearby Kansas Speedway.
On the move: Travis Birkley of Wakefield, Neb., was the race's hard charger, improving from 20th to finish seventh.
