Runner-up Jason Covert (72) works under winner Andy Anderson.
What won the race: Andy Anderson of Martinsburg, W.Va., grabbed the lead from Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., on lap three and never relinquished it but had to repel Covert's repeated late-race challenges to secure the $5,000 top prize. The key moment came in the final laps when Anderson hooked a rut and got out of shape in front of Covert, whose bid to overtake Anderson that circuit was squashed by the resulting contact that dulled his momentum.
Quotable: "I knew I had to protect the bottom there and I just had to make this thing as wide as I could down the straightaway," said Anderson, who apologized for the contact with Covert. "I left him some room back there, but as far as I'm concerned, we were the better car."
Key notes: Anderson scored his first win of 2014 at Wincheser. ... Among the drivers who brought out yellow flags in the caution-filled race were Gregg Satterlee (lap three), Jamie Lathroum (lap 17) and J.T. Spence, whose rough night ended on lap 14 when he was sent pitside for his third caution flag of the race (he spun twice earlier.) ... The feature took three tries to get started. The third was called a false start and led officials to put outside polesitter Jason Miller back to fourth. ... Keith Jackson, who swept last month's Winchester 200 weekend to the tune of $8,500, lost power at the start of the second heat. ... With 23 cars on hand, officials ran three heats and all drivers will qualified for the feature. ... The event wrapped up Winchester's season. ... Friday's $2,500-to-win event was scrapped because of forecasts for inclement weather. ... Justin Weaver won Saturday's Limited Late Model feature over Kyle Lee.
On the move: Allen Brannon advanced from the 19th starting spot to finish eighth and Mark Pettyjohn moved from 22nd on the starting grid to 10th at the finish.
Winner's sponsors: Anderson's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Bland's Towing.
Points chase: Hometown driver J.T. Spence won the track title with 2,085 points, edging Dale Hollidge (2,052) of Mechanicsville, Md.
