Dennis Franklin gets rolling at Dublin, hours before his victory.
What won the race: Ultimate Series points leader and front-row starter Dennis "Rambo" Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., won the rain-plagued event at Dublin, taking the checkers in the wee hours after multiple rain delays. Polesitter Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., made a move on the outside to take the lead on lap 32, but a broken right-front A-frame put Franklin back up front for the rest of the 40-lapper.
Quotable: “I hate that for Chris (Ferguson)," Franklin said. "He had the better car tonight and they have been having some bad luck lately so I really hate it for him. He had a good car. But we will take them any way we can get them right now. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky over anything else."
Key notes: Ten of 22 starters completed 40 laps. ... After a shower about 8 p.m. caused a delay, another burst of rain while the track was being reworked hit about 11 p.m. and forced the drying process to restart. The feature took the track at 1:15 a.m. ... Chris Ferguson lowered the track record with fast time in qualifying. ... Ferguson battled with Franklin for the lead before he slowed with suspension damage to finish 13th. ... Russell Erwin drew a caution when he slowed on the back straightaway. ... Friday's series race at Clary's Speedway in Brinkleyville, N.C., was rained out and rescheduled for Nov. 1.
On the move: Casey Barrow of Savannah, Ga., charged from the 13th starting spot to finish second. Jeff Smith of Dallas, N.C., advanced from the 12th starting position to finish fifth.
