What won the race: Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga., executed a risky slide job Satiurday in turn four on the 28th lap, making slight contact with J.R. Moseley and going on to lead the final 13 laps at East Alabama Motor Speedway. His $4,050 Alabama State Championship weekend victory marked the first of his career with the XR Southern All Star Series.
Quotable: "I've been trying to win a race here since like 2005, think I've finished second here like four times, just everything fell in place," Collins said. "I kinda spun the tires taking off and I lost a couple spots, but I knew the car was good, I was trying to bide my time there and I got into J.R. a little bit when I slid him, sorry about that, I thought I had him cleared."
Key notes: Austin Horton of Newnan, Ga., moved into the runner-up position on lap 37 and quickly gained on Collins, finishing 0.447 of a second back. ... J.R. Moseley of Columbus, Ga., led the first 27 laps from the outside front row before fading to finish third. ... Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., advanced 10 positions and finished fourth. ... After winning June's series stop at EAMS, Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., finished fifth. ... Southern All Star Series points leader Matt Dooley of Fayetteville, Ga., gained five spots and finished seventh. ... Dalton Cook of Columbus, Ga., pressured Moseley for the lead and ran inside the top-three until suffering a flat left-rear tire on lap 36, relegating him to finish ninth. ... Saturday's feature, the opening night of the tour’s doubleheader at East Alabama Motor Speedway, which hosts its 50th annual Alabama State Championship, was slowed by seven cautions and lasted 34 minutes, with 10 drivers completing all 40 laps. … The SAS tour returns Sunday for another $4,050-to-win program. ...
