Hudson O'Neal takes the checkers for his 40-lap victory.
What won the race: Pole-starting Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., dominated 40 laps early Saturday evening for a $10,000 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory at Brownstown Speedway. The hometown driver's fifth series victory of '22 came in a makeup from Friday night's rainout during the Jackson 100 weekend.
Quotable: "I was mainly just trying to focus not to go over the edge there. It was getting pretty close," O'Neal said of his high side. "I just knew if I didn't mess up and I just made sure I hit my marks every time that (runner-up Josh Rice) was gonna have a tough time getting by me just as top-dominant as (the track) was. ... No time to celebrate this one. We'll just go back and get to work and I think I think we're gonna have a pretty good hot rod for the rest of the night."
Key notes: O'Neal won by 1.1 seconds over Josh Rice. ... O'Neal's biggest scare came when Daulton Wilson took a shot at him in turn two on a lap-24 restart. ... Motor issues forced Devin Moran out at the drop of the green. ... Six slowdowns hampered the race, the last for Ross Robinson's lap-35 flat. .... Skyller Lewis spun on lap 24. ... Chad Stapleton slid over the turn-four banking on the 10 lap. ... Ricky Thornton Jr. slowed with a flat right-rear tire on the sixth lap. ... Jarod Fleetwood, a modified racer making his Late Model debut, had a rollover wreck on the fourth lap to draw a red flag; he was uninjured. ... The 40-lapper began Saturday's program after being rained out Friday. ... The $20,000-to-win Jackson 100 is scheduled for later Saturday with an additional complete program.
On the move: Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, started 23rd and finished 10th (he received a $500 hard charger award from Dion Deason Racing).
