What won the race: Keeping a threatening Logan Martin at bay amid lapped traffic, Tyler Stevens of Searcy, Ark., claimed his second career Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory in Friday's Louisiana Dirt Track State Championship opener at Boothill Speedway. Stevens earned $6,000.
Quotable: “We picked up the big race here the first of the year, and we come back and I’m just glad to park it in victory lane,” Stevens said. “We’ve been close, we’ve been good, we’ve just had bad luck and been working the kinks of the new car. I think we finally found a balance and I’m excited to go forward.”
Key notes: Stevens won his second Comp Cams victory of the season; he pocketed $10,000 at Boothill in March's Ronny Adams Memorial. ... West Plains, Mo.'s Martin closed in on Stevens late but slipped over the cushion in turns three and four with five laps remaining and was never able to track down the frontrunner. ... Martin apologized after the race for contact in turn four with Cade Dillard, who finished third. ... Fourth-starting Jon Mitchell of Texarkana, Texas, retired on lap 15. ... The Boothill weekend concludes Saturday with another feature paying $6,000 to the winner in Comp Cams action.
On the move: Clayton Stuckey of Shreveport, La., started 17th and finished ninth.
