Jeremy Wonderling captured the opener at the Topless Nationals.
What won the race: Outrunning fast qualifier Joe Martin, second-starting Jeremy Wonderling of Wellsville, N.Y., rolled to a $3,000 victory in Friday’s RUSH Crate Late Model Series Topless Nationals opener at Genesee Speedway. The 42-year-old finished 0.770 seconds ahead of Martin in capturing his sixth straight victory overall at the track.
Quotable: “I was hanging on pretty bad the last five or six laps," Wonderling said. "It got pretty skatey during the long green-flag run early on then the caution came out and I was good. The lapped cars weren’t doing anything wrong- it was just so equal and you couldn’t just drive by them."
Key notes: Wonderling led all 30 laps to claim his ninth win of the season at Genesee. … Third-starting Jason Knowles of Addison, N.Y., retired on lap 15. … Breyton Santee finished fifth after starting on the pole in a tour race for the first time. ... Brian Kotarski pocketed $200 for winning the non-qualifiers' race. … RUSH point leader Logan Roberson was absent from the event while attending the Fastrak World Championship in his home state of Virginia. … The doubleheader weekend wraps up Saturday with another $3,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Doug Ricotta of Warsaw, N.Y., started 18th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Wonderling’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Shuttleworth Auto Sales, Terry Prince Contracting, Cummings Trucking and Close Racing Supply.
