Ashton Winger takes the checkers at Senoia Raceway.
What won the race: Defending his victory in the same event in 2021, third-starting Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., cruised to the $5,054 Michael Head Jr. Memorial victory on Saturday night at Senoia Raceway. He stole the lead from pole-starting Dylan Knowles on the third circuit and led the remainder of the 54-lapper in the XR Southern All Star Series sanctioned event.
Quotable: “Wins are hard to come by, so any win means a lot, but this one always means something extra special. The Head family has always been special to our family, and to come out and win in an event that honors their memory is everything,” Winger said. “And then this Big Frog Motorsports team, it’s just incredible. I’m the lucky guy that gets to drive, but I’m so grateful for everything that the team and our sponsors provide me. Hopefully we can keep riding this wave and get another big check this Saturday (in World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series competition) at Senoia.”
Key notes: The win was Winger's eighth career SAS victory. ... Winger notched his sixth overall victory of 2022. ... Series point leader Matt Dooley of Brooks, Ga., retired on the third circuit. ... Billy Franklin and Taylor Puckett scratched from the 54-lapper.
On the move: Parker Martin of Miledgeville, Ga., started 18th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Winger’s Big Frog Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by M&W Transport, Dave’s Towing, VP Racing Fuels, Integra Racing Shocks, Keyser Manufacturing, Ocala Restuarant Supply, Super K Express and FK Rod Ends.
