What won the race: Taking advantage of a late restart, 12th-starting Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, Va., led only the final lap at Lernerville Speedway on Saturday, winning the $4,000 14th annual Steel City Stampede feature. Roberson's sixth victory of the season secured his RUSH Series championship on the Crate Late Model circuit.
Quotable: "I knew everything came down to this night and it had to be perfect for me to win it," Roberson said. "My guys gave me a hell of a car and I just drove the thing and tried to make the right decisions. There were a couple times I could have taken it in there, but told myself not to, run my race, and keep my head on straight and damned if it didn't work out!"
Key notes: Polesitter Bryce Davis of Hornell, N.Y., led laps 9-28 before settling for second place, 0.484 of a second back. ... Chad Homan advanced five positions and finished third. ... Brady Wonderling gained six spots and finished fourth. ... Winner of the last four RUSH Crate Late Model races, Jeremy Wonderling led lap 29 before fading on the late restart and finishing fifth. ... John Waters led the first eight laps before tagging the field on the first caution; he ended up 13th. ... Following his $3,500 ULMS victory earlier in the night, Michael Norris was running second to Waters when he was also involved in the lap-eight incident. Norris completed only two more laps and finished 24th. … Saturday's feature, the 14th annual Steel City Stampede and season finale for the RUSH Crate Late Models, was slowed by six cautions and lasted 31 minutes, with 21 competitors completing 30 laps.
On the move: Brian Knowles of Corning, N.Y., started 22nd and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Roberson’s CVR Race Cars entry carries sponsorship from Gunter’s Honey, Franklin Enterprises, Clary’s Used Cars, RBS Auto Sales, Blue Ridge Treescape Service, and Pro Fabrication.
